HOW TO PRICE WINDOW CLEANING SERVICES

Build the price from
the real route economics.

Window cleaning prices should recover paid labour, travel, water and consumables, equipment wear, overhead, fees and margin instead of relying on a single price per property.

1. Start with paid labour time

Include cleaning time, setup, pack-down and paid travel. Route density matters because the same cleaning time can produce very different economics when jobs are spread out.

2. Separate first cleans from maintenance work

A neglected first clean can take substantially longer than a regular maintenance visit. Use different time assumptions instead of underpricing the first appointment.

3. Include water and consumables

Pure water production, resin, filters, detergents, cloths and small consumables may look minor individually but become meaningful across a busy route.

4. Recover equipment wear

Poles, pumps, reels, hoses, batteries, filtration equipment and traditional tools all wear out. Allocate a realistic job-level allowance for maintenance and replacement.

5. Treat travel as a cost

Vehicle cost and paid travel time should both be considered. A compact route can support lower prices than isolated jobs with long drives between customers.

6. Allocate business overhead

Insurance, storage, marketing, software, phone, admin and other fixed costs need to be recovered across a realistic number of completed jobs.

Overhead per job = monthly fixed overhead ÷ expected paid jobs

7. Set a minimum charge

Very small jobs still require travel, setup and administration. A minimum pre-tax charge protects those fixed costs.

8. Protect your target margin

Margin is different from markup. Solve from the total cost base so the retained share of revenue matches the commercial target.

9. Add tax after the business price

Where VAT, GST or another sales tax applies, solve the pre-tax price first and add the relevant tax afterwards. Reference rates should always remain editable.

10. Use route density as a pricing advantage

Recurring customers close together can improve productivity and reduce travel cost per job. Review route-level profitability rather than judging every price in isolation.
